Major Roles

Seoul Community Support Center is an intermediary organization which supports resident-led communities based on cooperation between the private and the public sectors.

· We develop and implement community projects for broad areas and build capabilities and improve institutional systems for community supporting centers in autonomous districts to smoothly carry out community projects close to residents.

· We diagnose projects and prepare grounds to establish future directions by monitoring major projects of communities.

· We undertake research to establish policies for sustainable communities.

Supporting and operating projects

We support residents who need to have understanding of communities and have difficulties in applying for and operating projects.
We improve convenience and efficiency in operating projects and run community projects specialized by area.

Training

We run training by phase for growth of residents and community activists. We support residents, community activists, and activists of
intermediary organizations to understand values of communities and develop their work capabilities through mutual learning.

Consulting

We provide outreach consulting service for residents who experience community for the first time or have difficulties in applying for and
operating projects. Also, if residents visit the organization, they can meet intermediary organization models for city-type communities.

Research

Residents, activists, and expert researchers study together the present and future of community policies from small-scale research on
living in communities to achievement and improvement directions of community policies.

Promotions and spread of cases

We develop community models appropriate for local ecology by building networks between domestic and overseas private and public sectors.
In addition, we create a bond of sympathy among citizens through field cases to contribute to spread of communities.

Reinforcing ecology of communities
in autonomous districts

· We promote projects to lay the foundation for communities in autonomous districts to reinforce and stabilize capabilities of community
  support center in autonomous disctrict.

· We make our efforts to establish an effective cooperation system between the private and the public sectors where residents and a governing
   body can cooperate with each other.

Emergence of community activists and promoting their growth

· We proactively develop activists and operate diverse training programs which can contribute to growth of activists.

· We ponder about the system to discover future generations who will live as activists in communities and grow together with them.

Project Performance

If three persons gather together
A community can start if at least three residents gather together, which shows that we lowered an administrative barrier for residents.

In other words, we enabled any residents to start their own community projects if they want by reducing the required minimum number of persons to participate in a project to three.

Feeling values of communities
81.4% > 75.8%
The OECD survey (2016 better life index) revealed that community index of Korean citizens who had experienced community projects was higher than others.

In communities of 25Seoul autonomous districts
The roles of autonomous districts are significant for community projects since the projects are closely related to residents.

Governing bodies of districts and intermediary organizations are supporting community projects customized for residents in 25 districts by cooperating with each other to revitalize communities of Seoul.
* As of 2017, 24 intermediary organizations were established.

The results of the 2016 Seoul Survey on City Policies showed that those who experienced community projects gained a high score of settlement.
